Hi everyone! I have struggled w/ obesitiy as a child and then again in my late teens through adulthood. I have finally made the tough decision to have gastric bypass b/c i don't want to follow in my father's footsteps. He died 2 years ago at 64 of a heart attack, had diabetes, CHF, HTN and was obese.
I was surprised when I met with the Dr. that my insurance moved so quickly and I can get the procedure on November 9th!! I am ready, the only thing I am goind to Disney in Florida on December 14th. I want everyone's HONEST opinion on how they felt a month after surgery??? Could you walk around Disney?? I know I could potentially be 30-50 lbs lighter, which would help.
But I could also be in pain or have complications a month later??? Would it be wiser to put the surgery off until I come back, which would make it in January??
Any input would be great!! thanks so much!! Jennifer

Jennifer,
Each person is different. I didn't have the bypass, I had the band. For me I was back to normal in 2 days. Someone else I know, who had the same operation, took a week. And someone else took two weeks.
I know people who had the bypass. Some were up and around in 3 days. Others took weeks. One person I know is still having issues, and it's been about 2 months.
At the time, I postponed my operation until January because I was afraid it would ruin the holidays. I was wrong, and I was upset because in hindsight I knew I should have the operation in November.
No one can say for sure how YOU will react to the operation. Looking at the average, you should be ok. But only you know you.
